Week#16 of 2019 Good morning! I hope you are enjoying this spring weather and had a refreshing weekend.
In last week's issue of Synaptic Connections we explored the importance of defining your value proposition in the context of Sustainability. The key message is that Sustainability is not going away and it is wise to have a strategic response with long-term plans that maximize your value-proposition in the market. The proper understanding of your value-proposition prepares you for the pivot.
The pivot, done with integrity and strategic intent, can be a very powerful tool for companies to respond to emerging market challenges. Before considering a pivot, it is important to have your value-proposition well understood and to have a keen insights into market dynamics and emerging trends. The pivot is an output from a comprehensive strategy. Pivoting too early often leads to falls.
Think of the pivot in the context of a physical sports maneuver. This is a dynamic move, and not static. First, you need to get centered and collect your balance. Then, you need to know where you are going. You lighten the load on the one foot and shift your weight to the other foot as you rotate. It sounds simple enough - only, execution is considerably more challenging within an organization and with leading people.
In the context of Sustainabilty this is an important thought for those who currently use, or produce non-sustainable materials at the core of their business. Our beloved packaging industry stands in the cross-hairs of this emerging challenge. We see this as opportunity to innovate, bring value, and we are motivated by the challenges.
The closing thought for this week's message - get outside in this spring weather, have fun, and practice your pivot!
